Grading Scale for the CHIMERA COSPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
- QUALITY
Scale of 1 – 10
What we look at: If your costume is handmade or store bought, we look at stitching, material and fit. Handmade costumes get a bonus in this category. If you have compiled your costume from things found around teh house, we look at how you have modified them, how you paired them, and how creative you were. We also take into account: wig styling and make-up.
Tips: We favour handmade costumes over anything else. If your costume is handmade, make sure to let us know how you made it. If not, try to put more emphasis on something you styled like your wig or make-up. - ACCURACY
Scale of 1 – 10
What we look at: we will be checking how faithful your costume, hair, make-up and props are to the character you’re cosplay as.
Tips: Print out a picture of your character showing the full costume. Do mention any variations or specific versions you took into account. If what you are cosplaying as is not an existing character, mention at least a point of reference or inspiration. - PRESENTATION
Scale of 1 – 10
What we look at: the goal of cosplay is to look as much like your character as possible, this includes body motions and phrases that you say. Those who act in character will score higher than those who do not.
Tips: Talk in the tone of your character and try to say things that he or she would say. Stand, pose and move like him or her too. - EFFORT
Scale 1 – 10
What we look at: we will try and determine how hard each person had to work to complete his costume, find a rare prop, style the appropriate wig or do his/her make-up.
Tips: Make sure to tell the judges how long you worked on compiling your costume and point out details that required effort to complete.
FAQ for the CHIMERA COSPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Do I have to participate in all of the conventions to be eligible for the finals?
You do not have to participate in all the conventions. All you have to do is end up in the TOP 5 at the end of the convention you attended.
If I attend a convention and don’t end up in the TOP 5 does that mean I am ineligible to try again?
If for some reason you don’t end up in the TOP 5 at Malone, you can go to Upstate Comic Con on Day 1 and try to get in that way. These two events provide a chance to get into the finals.
I was in the TOP 5 at one of the conventions. Do I have to attend the finals or can I send a photo of my cosplay?
Participants for the finals must be physically present and in cosplay to be eligible for the grand prize. In an effort to be fair to competitors, we do not allow participants to submit photos in place of their physical presence.
I was TOP 5, however, did not win. So What happens now?
You will receive two free passes (you and a friend) to attend Upstate Comic Con’s two day event. The second day of UCC is where and when the finals will be held.
What happens if I win a competition at one f these events?
We will ask you to pose for a couple of photos to he shared on the event’s facebook page. at this time will also direct you to one of our event coordinators where they will pay you in cash.
For the Finals, do I have to wear the same cosplay that got me into the finals?
You do not have to wear the same cosplay. Some may want to out of strategy, however you are free to cosplay as something completely different for the finals.
Can my friend and I enter as a team?
Unfortunately, no. The competition is based on a competitor vs competitor format and it would not be fair if we judged a team verses an individual.
